The FirstCouncil Meeting was held at the main campus central admin board room, in attendance were all management staff and directors of all college, the academic staff Union, The national association of non academic staff, the association of senior staff of Polytechnic and The Student Union Government.
The First Speech was delivered by the Rector welcoming the new Governing Council and gave an update of the current status of Kaduna Polytechnic highlighting key challenges of which the current Strike was mentioned.
The next speech was by delivered by the ASUP Union chairman welcoming the Governing Council on board and highlighting a 14 demands of the union
The other two unions delivered their own speech which featured challenges to their respective Unions, the present status of the school, pleading to the council to return the school to its glorious days. The last speech was done by the students Union Government President which change the meeting to an emotional meeting of tears when the SUG President busted into deep tears while expressing the pain of students in Kaduna Polytechnic how four years program have become seven years program how the future of students have been deterred by the continuous industrial Action, even with the tears, the SUG President was able to express the deep pain of the Students and demands that will make our students comfortable.
After the emotional speech of the SUG President which left 80% of the attendees with tears in their eyes,
The Governing Council chairman was not short of words to immediately resolved this, he started by saying that he had a speech prepared for the meeting but he wouldn't read the speech not after what he had seen and heard, He started with ASUP expressing his dissatisfaction with the ASUP Union for keeping innocent students out of class who innocently came to learn, he immediately told ASUP that what ever will be done to ensure that the Strike would be suspended today(17th May) would be done now, he also assured all that Kaduna Polytechnic will return to its glorious days.
The Registrar been the Secretary of the Governing Council gave the closing remarks which he could not finish as he busted into tear while speaking....
The meeting ended so emotional, the Governing Council had a sit down discussion with ASUP Union to ensure that the Strike Action will be immediately resolved that have given rise to an emergency Congress meeting by 4pm today by the ASUP Union which we believe is to suspend the Strike Action
It is no more rumours but fact and certained,
That the almost one month strike embarked upon by ASUP kadpoly has been suspended.
Note: u will be updated on the awaiting circular tomorrow Friday 19th of May 2017.
However, students are advised to resume immediately as lecture commences on Monday 22nd May 2017.
