Tom Brady ends radio interview over criticism of his daughter

If Tom Brady wanted to get on America’s good side heading into a week in which most of the nation is pulling against him, he picked the perfect way to do it: by standing up for his daughter.

Brady does a regular weekly call-in segment with the “Kirk and Callahan Show” on Boston radio station WEEI, a genial sort of “how-ya-feelin’-Tom” Q&A that provides a touch of insight into the reclusive QB’s life. But that could be at an end; Brady heard that one of the show’s players had criticized Brady’s 5-year-old daughter on another show.

The context: Alex Reimer, one of the show’s frequent guests, was discussing “Tom vs. Time,” a Facebook video series that delves deeply into Brady’s family life. Reimer called Brady’s daughter “an annoying little pissant,” and, well, that got under Tom’s skin … as well it should. Call Brady himself whatever you want, but don’t go after a man’s family.

“I’ve tried to come on this show for many years and showed you guys a lot of respect,” Brady said, per ESPN. “I’ve always tried and come on and do a good job for you guys. It’s very disappointing when you hear [those comments], certainly. My daughter, or any child, certainly doesn’t deserve that.”

And then came the kicker: “I really don’t have much to say this morning,” he added. “Maybe I’ll speak with you guys some other time.”

That screaming you can hear is WEEI wailing at the loss of an exclusive pipeline to a local icon. Just last week, WEEI’s parent company and the Patriots signed a five-year deal for radio distribution of Patriots info, with Brady himself as the centerpiece. (The station has announced that Reimer has been suspended indefinitely.)

Brady begins his eighth Super Bowl week with Monday’s media night. Any media looking to get in good with Tom might want to offer a few nice words about his daughter.
