Nearly 30,000 Hongkongers apply to move to UK

The quantity of individuals intending to move to the UK from Hong Kong has sped up as Beijing escalates its clampdown on the previous British settlement.

The course is available to 3m qualified Hongkongers, with British National (Overseas) status and their wards, to remain in the UK. They reserve the option to live and work for either 30 months or five years, with a possible course to British citizenship.

Head administrator Boris Johnson held a video approach Friday evening with four British National (Overseas) families from Hong Kong who had moved to the UK in the previous year. 


During the call, Mr Johnson said: "in the interest of the entire country I need to say that we are so happy to have you here and how glad we are that you have picked the UK to live." 


He added: "The UK has a long and glad history of accepting the individuals who show up on our shores looking for the unavoidable rights and opportunities denied to them in their country. I'm pleased that we have had the option to make this proposal to you and other British Nationals (Overseas)."
