Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector General of Police, is the IGP. has instructed CP Bartholomew N. Onyeka, the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, to seal all 17 Local Government Secretariats in the state.
According to a statement that was issued by DSP Alfred Alabo, the spokesperson for the state police command, this has become necessary as a result of tensions surrounding the leadership of the Local Government Areas and the potential threat that supporters and Local Government Chairmen pose to the state's critical infrastructure, lives, and properties. As the Nigeria Police Force, our decision to take this action is in accordance with our constitutional obligation to prevent the aforementioned from prevailing on the Plateau.
“To this end, the Nigeria Police Force on the Plateau cannot sit back and watch things go wrong under our supervision; consequently, we must make the crucial decision to seal the Local Government secretariats." As a result, the command warns that "we will ensure that the law takes its full course on such persons" and that "we will not take it lightly with anyone who tries to disrupt this process or causes any confusion around the Local Government Secretariats."
