Officer who raced to Parkland massacre scene testifies against deputy who stayed outside

During the 2018 Parkland shooting, a police officer who rushed into a high school building said that a sheriff's deputy outside confirmed that the shooter was upstairs.

The previous Broward Province representative, Scot Peterson, is being investigated for neglecting to go up against the shooter who killed 17 individuals at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High. He has demanded since he addressed agents two days after the slaughter that he was unable to tell where the discharges were coming from, and that he figured they might have been terminated outside.

WPLG-TV reported that Coral Springs officer Richard Best related what he claimed Peterson told him outside the classroom building on the third day of Peterson's trial.

"Hey brother, what do we got?" I asked. Best informed the jury: He said, 'Shots second or third floor.'"

Peterson, 60, could be condemned to almost 100 years in jail whenever sentenced.

Best stated, "It is understood that the longer you wait, the more damage is done." Each time you heard a discharge, someone may be dead."

Peterson is accused of not confronting Nikolas Cruz before he reached the third floor of the building, where he killed six people. The delegate isn't accused in association of the 11 passings on the main floor, before he arrived at the structure.

Peterson showed up at the structure with his firearm drawn 73 seconds before Cruz arrived at the third floor. With his gun drawn, Peterson hid in an alcove of a neighboring building, 75 feet (23 meters) away. He didn't leave his spot for around 40 minutes — something like 35 minutes after the shooting had halted.

Arman Borghei, a student on the third floor of the building at the time of the shootings, claims that he saw Peterson with his gun drawn below from a window.

Borghei claimed to be "really scared, wondering when help would arrive," but he didn't see Peterson enter the building.

Best testified that he thought it was his responsibility to put his life in danger to stop a threat and help others.
