In the Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, young people claimed that a Hippopotamus had been terrorizing waterways. The animal was killed.
It was learned that the incident occurred on July 6, 2023, near the hamlet of Ebete, which is on the border of Benue and Nasarawa States.
A video showing the youths slaying the animal with local tools was shared by Olikita Ekani, a former media aide to Samue
l Ortom, who was the immediate preceding governor of Benue State.
"Agatu young people killed a beast that was threatening their streams among Adeke and Ebete," he subtitled the video.
"As per one of the observers, the creature had halted the majority of the anglers from unreservedly completing their authentic occupation uninhibitedly as they have kept them indoor, obliterated their kayaks and injured a few anglers."
"He likewise added that a similar animal was involved the eating up of ranch produce and obliteration of homestead lands in the riverine towns in Agatu.
"It was alleged that the same animal also killed a person in Makurdi near the old bridge before escaping through the River Benue to Agatu," the report reads.
